Exchange connection error on Lync.

Issue: Exchange connection error on Lync.

Error Message: Lync is experiencing connection issues with the Exchange server. Lync will attempt to repair the connection until it is fully restored. Outlook contact and calendar information may be unavailable or out of date until the connection is restored.

Problem Statement:
This is purely Lync – Outlook integration issue. Affected user will see exchange connection error on their Lync client. Basically Lync and Exchange integration issues rely on Exchange Web Services (EWS) to retrieve information, Make sure that the Autodiscover service on the Exchange server that the user's mailbox resides on must be configured and must be working correctly.

If Autodiscover working correctly then Lync client will properly integrate with Outlook client and it will shows the Out of Office Status, Calendar information etc.
If it not work then, There are multiple things need to check.

Resolution:

1.  Make sure that you’re Lync 2010 and Outlook 2007 or 2010 version is updated.

 2. Select the Lync – Outlook integration.

a.     Open Lync 2010 > Click on ‘Options’ > Click on ‘Personal’

b.    Under Personal Information Manager, Select ‘’Microsoft Exchange or Microsoft Outlook”.
3. Make sure your SMTP address and SIP will be looking same. If you are using single SIP domain then change SIP address to SamAccount name to get properly sync with EWS.

4. If the time on your computer differs from the time on the server that you're trying to sign in to, your attempt to sign in may fail. Set your computer's time as close to the correct local time as possible.
5. These errors may also occur when you enter incorrect credentials after you're prompted to connect to your Outlook profile or if you opt to click Cancel. To resolve the issue, sign out and then sign back in to Lync, and then enter your credentials.
6. As I stated above to show the Out of Office status, calendar information etc Autodiscover must be running and working. You can verify that Autodiscover for the user’s Exchange mailbox is working correctly

1.  Verify that Exchange Free/Busy is working in Outlook:
a.     Start Outlook, and then create a new meeting invitation.
b.    Add several contacts to the invitee list. Then, click Scheduling Assistant and verify that you can see when people are available or busy.

2.    If the Free/Busy information for users is displayed as hashes (/////), there's probably something wrong with the Exchange Free/Busy service. Verify the Autodiscover service. To do this, follow these steps:
              a.     Press and hold Ctrl, right-click the Outlook icon in the               notification area, and then click Test E-Mail      AutoConfiguration.
b.    Enter the user’s SIP address and password. This verifies that Lync can determine your EWS endpoint based on your SIP address.
3.    Clean the Outlook Free/Busy information. To do this, follow these steps:
c.     Open a command prompt. To do this, click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then press Enter.
d.    Go to the Outlook installation folder:
§  Microsoft Office 2013: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\office15
§  Microsoft Office 2010: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14
§  2007 Microsoft Office system: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12
e.     Type outlook.exe /cleanfreebusy, and then press Enter.
4.    Verify the Lync EWS external URL:
        f.       Press and hold Ctrl, right-click the Lync icon in the notification area, and then click Configuration Information.
g.     Enter the EWS External URL value into a web browser. If you're prompted, enter your Office 365 credentials. You should see the Exchange Web Services XML document displayed in the web browser.

Thank you.
