Enable Appear Offline status on Lync 2013 client.

Issue: Enable Appear Offline status on Lync 2013 client.
Problem Statement:  Client has request to have “Appear Offline” status line “Appear Away”. This is will be additional status which user can use however they have add the same status in registry.  

You can add ‘Appear Offline’ status using following steps:
1.     Automatic Method to add Registry entry.
a.     Open Command prompt with Administrative privileges.
b.     Type or copy paste below registry entry and press Enter button from Keyboard.  

reg add HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync /v EnableAppearOffline /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f 

c.      Now Exit Lync 2013 and reopen the same. Now you will “AppearOffline” status.


2.     Manual method:
1.     Open Registry and go to


Note: If you are unable to see any folder then create folder.
2.     Right click on blank space and select REG_DWORD (32 or 64 bit) per machine.

3.     Type value name as ‘EnableAppearOffline’ and value data is “1”.

4.     Now Exit Lync 2013 and reopen the same. Now you will “AppearOffline” status.

    1. Balu, I had this working perfectly appearing offline per your intructions , however we upgraded to 2016 and Skype 2016 and do that option has now disappeared again. ugh>! what is the registry entry for 2016? so I can copy and past in cmd.
