Lync status in Outlook shows presence unknown and IM, Call option grayed out.
Recently I have noticed different behavior in Outlook.
Lync and Outlook work perfectly internally and externally.
What I seen recently, initially I was connected externally on Lync 2013 and Outlook 2013 and then started VPN connection. Still outlook and Lync works perfectly via VPN connection and without VPN.
Then I disconnected VPN connection. Later my Outlook doesn’t show Lync users status. Its shows as ‘Presence Unknown’ and IM, Call and Video option shows grayed out. See the above screenshot.
Nothing changed in Outlook 2013 or Lync 2013 client or server side.
1. Lync integrated with Outlook. (Lync > Options > Personal > selected ‘Microsoft Exchange or Microsoft Outlook’).
2. Conversation History gets saved as expected.
3. EWS status OK.
4. In Outlook > File > Outlook Options > People > ‘Display online status next to name’ is checked.
5. Still Outlook doesn’t show status.
Resolution is very simple.
Just restart Outlook 2013 client and check the status in Outlook. You will be able to see status. J
