Skype for Business user guide

Skype for Business client is replacement of Lync 2013 client. Skype client is work the way Lync 2013 was working. All Lync 2013 features carry forward to Skype for Business. 

Here is the Skype for Business 2015 (Lync 2013) user guide which I prepared for customer.

How to sign-in on Skype for Business 2015 client?

PA: you must have sign-in address in order to sign-in on Skype for Business client.

In Brocade sign-in address is same as your email address.

E.g. bilag@mydomain.com

 

How to change presence status in Skype for Business client?

Once you sign in on Lync > click on drop down and select desire presence status.

 

How to search user contact / buddy in Skype for Business client?

You can search contacts and organization by name, email address, or chat room.

Just type name, email address or chat room name and select desire person for communication.

E.g. Searching ‘Name’

 

How add contacts and Distribution List in Skype for Business client?

First will add single contact using search:

A.    In the search box on the Contacts view of the Skype for Business (Lync) main window, type a name, IM address, or phone number to add to your list. As you type, the search results will start appearing below the search box.

B.    When you see the listing for the person you want to add, point at the picture (or picture display area), then click the More Options button. 

 

C.    Point to Add to Contact List and select a group for your new contact to belong to.

For instance, your search may not have brought up the results you expected (this can happen when the person you want to add is from outside of your organization). Or maybe you need to give your new contact more privileged access to your calendar information than you give some other contacts. In these and other cases, it may make sense to add a contact using this method instead:

A.     On the Skype for Business (Lync) main window, click the Add a contact icon   Add a contact   , and then select one of the following two options from the drop-down menu.

B.      To add an internal contact:

§  Click Add a Contact in my Organization.

 

§  Type the person’s name or email address in the search panel.

§  Right-click the listing, click Add to Contacts List from the drop-down menu, and select a group to add the contact to.

 

C.     To add a contact from outside of your organization: [ Public IM address will not allowed, this option is only allowed for federated user]

a.     Click Add a Contact Not in my Organization.

b.    On the second drop-down menu, click the IM service that your new contact will likely use to communicate with you. (The list you see will depend on what services your company has set up Skype for Business (Lync) to work with.) If you aren’t sure what IM service this person uses, click Other.

c.     The Add contact dialog box now appears. In the IM address field at top of the dialog box, enter a correctly formatted instant messaging address for your new contact. (You will know that the address is correctly formatted when you see a green check mark to the right of the address.)

d.    Click the Group drop-down arrow and select a group to add your new contact to.

e.     Click the Relationship drop-down arrow and select a privacy relationship for your new contact.

f.      Click OK. 

How to create contact group in Skype for Business client?

1.    In the Skype for Business (Lync) main window, in your Contacts view, click the Add a contact icon Add a contact, then click Create a New Group.

 

2.    In the space that now opens up at the bottom of the window, type over the phrase New Group to give your group a descriptive name.

 

How to setup call forwarding in Skype for Business client?

PA: You must enable for enterprise voice in order to use call forwarding functionality.

If you are seeing dial pad (Phone) Icon on your Skype for Business client that means you are enabled for Enterprise voice functionality.

 

A.    Open Skype client.

B.    Options > Tools > Call Forwarding Settings.


 

C.    User call forwarding option as your choice:

1.    Turn off call forwarding will switch off call forwarding capability.

2.    Forward my calls to will selected option.

3.    Simultaneously ring will calls ring your work as well as another phone number or person.

 

 

How delegate calls in Skype for Business client?

A.    Open Skype client.

B.    Options > Tools > Call Forwarding Settings.

C.    Under ‘Call Forwarding Settings’ click on ‘Edit my delegate members’.

D.    Click on Add and type person name whom you want to delegates your call.

How to add phone number on Skype for Business client?

A.    Open Skype client.

B.    Options > Tools > Phones.

C.    Under ‘Phone’ click on Work, Mobile, Home, other number etc.

D.    Type the complete phone.

How to save Skype instant message conversation to outlook conversation history folder?
 

A.    Open Skype client.

B.    Options > Tools > Personal.

C.    Under 'Personal information manager' click on drop down and select 'Microsoft Exchange or Microsoft Outlook'.

Check mark below:

1. Update my presence based on my calendar information.

2. Show my Out of Office info to contacts in my Friend and Family, Workgroup, and Colleagues privacy relationships.

3. Save IM conversation in my email Conversation History folder.

4. Save call logs in my email Conversation History folder.

D.    Under Show pictures:

Check mark 'Show pictures of contacts.

How to select audio device in Skype for Business client?

A.    Open Skype client.

B.    Options > Tools >Audio Device.

Under audio device, select IT provide headset device in order to get good audio quality.

Where I can find my shared files in Skype for Business client?

A.    Open Skype client.

B.    Options > Tools > File Transfer

Default location: C:\Users\bilag\Documents\My Received Files

You can change default file save location using browse button.

 

 

Where I can find my Skype Meetings in Skype for Business client?

A.    Open Skype client.

B.    Options > Tools > Recording

Default location: C:\Users\bilag\Videos\Lync Recordings

You can change default recording save location using browse button.

You can show your entire desktop or just a program to everyone in a Skype for Business Meeting, call, or instant messaging (IM) conversation. However sometime this feature does not work and give different errors.  Error message: ·Cannot start Desktop/Application Sharing due to network issues. ·An error occurred during the screen presentation. Note: Orgname.com is my SIP domain name. Here are the most common mistake people make while sign-in on Skype for Business (Lync).
1.If you have login credential however still unable to sign-in then make sure you are putting proper login credential. Below error shows when you are wrong entering your sign-in address:
