How to enable logging on Skype for Business (Lync) client?
We use to receive complain from user that Skype for Business (Lync) client is not working, sign-in issue, meeting join issue, PSTN calling issue, audio quality issue etc. We cannot troubleshoot issue without information, first step is to gather information, and you can gather correct information asking multiple question and then collect Skype for Business (Lync) client logs.
In this post I am covering most common questions and how enable client log steps.
Below are question you can ask user who reported issue:
1.     Is the issue affecting all users, multiple users or 1 user?
2.     If multiple users – was there a conference or meeting or something that ties these users together? Can you reproduce the issue?
3.     If one user, does the user have the issue once, sometimes or all the time?
4.     If sometimes or all the time – does the user have the issue when connected to a different network? (home, office, coffee shop, Hotel, VPN, Wireless)
5.     If the user has the issue in multiple locations – does the user have the issue with multiple devices/clients? (iphone, ipad, android, mac, Laptop)
6.     User Name, SIP Address, Operating System and client and if applicable, Lync Phone number.
Additional question related to calling issue:
  1. Inbound or Outbound calling issue.
  2. PSTN call? Dial-in Conference call? Lync Conference? , Lync external number to Lync number Call?
  3. Phone Number of the party calling/being called/exact time (if possible then).
  4. What was the symptom? Poor quality/disconnected/unable to connect/unable to login/unable to join meetings/search or address book not working…
  5. Any error messages in the client? Please send screen shots or type the error exactly.
  6. Gather the logs from the client. Turn on logging and attempt to replicate the problem. [User article how to enable / get client log]
How to enable Logging on the Lync Client for Windows?
1.     From the Lync 2010/13 Client Click on Tools > Options > General.
2.     Under the Logging section check Turn on logging in Lync and Turn on Windows Event logging for Lync. Click OK 
3.     Restart Lync Client.
4.     Attempt to replicate the issue.
5.     Logs can be found in \tracing.  
Exact path for Lync 2013 client: %localappdata%\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync\Tracing
There will typically be a searchable error in there a clue to point you further in troubleshooting.
How to enable Logging on the Skype for Business Client for Windows?
1.     From the Skype for Business Client Click on Tools > Options > General.
2.     Under the Logging in Skype for Business: Full
3.     Click OK 
4.     Restart Lync Client.
5.     Attempt to replicate the issue.
6.     Logs can be found in \tracing.  
Exact path for Lync 2013 client: %localappdata%\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync\Tracing
There will typically be a searchable error in there a clue to point you further in troubleshooting.
How to enable Logging on the Lync Client for Mac?
1.     From the Lync Client Click on Lync > Preferences > General 
2.     Under the Logging section check Turn on logging for troubleshooting. 
3.     Restart Lync Client.
4.     Attempt  to replicate the issue 
The logs are located in users/username/library/logs/Microsoft-Lync-0.log. (The zero increments as the log file grow.)

How to enable Logging on the Skype for Business Mobile Client for iOS?
1.     From the Skype for Business Mobile Client - My Info screen tap Options. 
2.     Under the Other section tap Logging. Toggle off to on for Enable Logging.
3.     Restart Lync Mobile Client.
4.     Attempt  to replicate the issue.
Return to My Info – Options – Other – Logging. There will be a Send Log Files button. Tap it and send an email with the attached log files to yourself.

How to enable Logging on the Lync Mobile Client for iOS?
1.     From the Lync Mobile Client - My Info screen tap Options
under the other section tap Logging.
2.     Toggle off to on for Enable Logging 
3.     Restart Lync Mobile Client 
Attempt to replicate the issue:
Return to My Info > Options > Other > Logging. There will be a Send Log Files button. Tap it and send an email with the attached log files to yourself. Attach these logs to the ticket.

Enable Logging on the Lync Mobile Client for Andriod.
On the Android device, after a user is signed in, press the hardware menu button and tap Options in the menu > On the Options screen, check if the Logging option is turned on. If not, turn on the Logging option, Sign out, and then Sign in again.
Restart Lync Mobile Client
Attempt to replicate the issue
Return to the Options Menu.
Options – Other – Logging. There will be a Send Log Files button. Tap it and send an email with the attached log files to yourself. Attach these logs to the ticket.

How to enable log on Lync Web App / Online meeting?
Add the following part to the end of the URL to enable full logging and generate a log file. ?sl=1&log=full
So if you troubleshooting Lync online meeting e.g. meet.lyncdude.com you should have: https://meet.mydomain.com/bilag/4V1BHM2Z?sl=1&log=full
The log file: LWAJSPersistentX.log where x is a number
